The photos were obviously taken while they were having a deep clean ;)

I see there are a number of posts from ‘Official Autopost’ and that it is designated as a bot.
What or who is Official Autopost?
TBH, I’m not entirely sure what a bot is or its purpose.

The Official Autopost bot is something that brings posts made by P&O on their Facebook page over onto this forum.

A bot is a small program that reads data posted on a web site and depending on the bot it will then carry out a task. For example there are Google bots that will scan the page so that the content can be indexed and then found when you do a Google search.

Some bots are used to target advertising at your browser but not all.

There are two reasons.

Firstly if there is something significant posted on P&O's Facebook page then it does not get overlooked, especially if people do not use FB.

Secondly it keeps the board active which is necessary for the purposes of search indexing.

Actually it is not a question of "allowing" it but one of deliberately enabling it.

The trouble is David they sometimes dominate the board, as is the case right now with three out of five threads all P&O stuff. But it’s your forum so who are we to say what should or should not appear.

Just my opinion, but I think the current affairs thread stifles new topics of discussion because new topics don’t get time to establish themselves before another current affair topic supersedes the previous one.

With respect David, I’ve started more topics on this forum than anyone else, so I think I’m doing my bit for the forum.

All that needs to happen is for you to scrap the current affairs thread and let members post new current affairs topics under their own thread.

This of course won’t stop the frequency of the auto posts but it will, I believe, create more discussion on individual current affairs posts.

Since responding to an existing thread is far easier than starting a new one, then I think closing down the Current affairs thread is likely to lead to a reduction in activity.

Shame that wasn’t the case with my original ‘Current Affairs’ thread which got put on the back burner when a new one got introduced, by the boss of all people.

John,

I’m not talking about responding to an existing thread, I’m talking about responding to a new post on an existing thread that doesn’t get much/any replies because it is superseded by the next post of a different topic.

That is the nature of fora - they are all the same.

There were two reasons 1. it was getting too long and 2. it made sense to have a new one for each year otherwise it would have to be renamed as "Past Affairs" (and I know exactly what I put there)

Maybe we could have a Monarchy topic for Keefie to post his views so we can avoid them elsewhere.

I knew what you were talking about, but each different topic in a main thread would need to start with a new thread.
