P&O cruise to Norway Oct-Nov 2025
Hi All,
I am new to cruising and currently planning my first cruise.
A P&O cruise to Norway Oct-Nov 2025 looks good.
Does anyone have experience of the seas to Norway (cruise goes up to Hammerfest) at this time of the year. I appreciate that there are no guarantees on the seas but I would like to avoid very rough seas if that is more likely than not.
Any help appreciated.

realistically, it is in the hands of the Gods - or perhaps Norwegian Trolls.
Sometimes the North Sea is like a mill-pond, others a maelstrom ( yes, a slight exaggeration) - whatever time of year you travel. Generally, once you enter a Fjord it gets calmer.
I suggest, if you might suffer from sea sickness, you book a midships, lowish cabin with at least a window. Sometimes your mind ( and ears ) tell you the sea is bouncing, bur watching the horizon proves it's not that bad.
Take pills with you just in case ( quite often the pack comes home unopened) and take them before you start to feel queasy...

Hello zaff, it is as Meg has said; you make your choice and hope for the best. I’m not a regular cruiser by any stretch of the imagination but we have done a few cruises (none in the North Sea) Just from what I have been reading Oct-Nov does give you a better chance of experiencing rougher seas, Opp’s sorry you didn’t want to hear that did you? … but if you still want to take the chance then Meg has given you sound advice.
We once got caught up in a force 11 storm when entering the Med (July) so you can catch a storm any time of the year, on that occasion our 8-year-old daughter slept straight through the storm... we were hanging onto our beds for dear life. Cruising is about experiences; some are less pleasant than others but you will always remember your first cruise.
Go for it and enjoy!
P.s You won’t be surprised to hear that I’m auditioning for this year Christmas panto as the Grim Reaper.

I've been up the North Sea several times, cruises to the Baltic and to the Fjords. As others have said, you really can't predict how it's going to be at different times of the year. On one cruise to the Fjords which was, I think, in late September, incredibly rough once we left Southampton. The Captain warned us about this and we took Stugeron tablets, swear by those, and both my husband and I were fine and managed breakfast the next morning. On the same cruise, returning home, the North Sea was like a millpond, sun shining, smooth as anything. So you really can't plan for what it's going to be like. Usually the Captain will warn of approaching bad weather. If you're concerned then as soon as that happens, take the tablets and you should be fine. I've had far more smooth journeys on the North Sea than rough ones. I was there just a few weeks ago and all was fine sailing back to Southampton.

It was millpond this week, as was our whole Baltic cruise.
