Saturday Results

Not a good day attherace with both selections running dismal races.

Gibbs Island - 9th of 16

Kahfiz - 25th of 28

So what do we say in these situations…”Purosangue” runs Wednesday

Well the bookies were happy with your bet on Mr Vittori at Chester....he was a disappointment.
I noticed that Purosangue is about 5th favourite @ about 10/1 BetF, be interesting to see if his odds get shorter nearer Wednesday
& an interesting stat for you Onelife....
he has run 3 times previously at York and never been lower than 2nd ( but you probably already know that  )
A horse you mentioned last year is also entered ...Lord Bertie....out of the two... yes, I would be betting on Purosangue

Hi Pompey, I think the 10/1 antipost is a bit risky as I’m not so sure he will run unless we see some rain….as soon as they go nrnb I’ll be on.

It’s been an awful week with non-stop whinging from Foxy and Sir Merv not being able to access the forum….after two days earache I decided to step in and sort it out

Ha. So you thought you could insult us on a horse racing thread because we never check it! Well wrong wrong wrong. I often look in to see how much you've lost this week. I've even thought of donating my old cardigans to your local Oxfam branch.

Anyway I've had a word with David about your assistance. He says if you ever to try to interfere with his knobs again you'll be barred. 🤣

Oop’s…Forgive me Sir Merv, I’d forgotten it was you who played with David’s kn*bs and in doing so got the problem sorted…knowing how humble you are I just thought it best that I take all the credit   :D

You might remember, a while ago, I mentioned James J Braddock as a possible derby horse and made an e/way anti-post bet '50/1 & have somehow misplaced the ticket  ....then after he only came 5th at Leopardstown in April the odds dropped to 66/1 so I made another anti-post bet on him still keeping the faith.....and then he ran today against Pierre Bonnard & Endorsment ( who beat him last time ).....so what happened ??

Kapow !! yes he came out and won...only by a s/head but still a win. His odds have dropped down to 25/1
He still may not run so I won't be getting my hopes up yet....
I also have three other anti-post derby bets including a win only bet on Maltese Cross @ 20/1 before the race he won the other day & now down to 12/1
I know anti-post bets this early only sometimes get to run but as I'm only putting down ÂŁ1 e/way ...it's not exactly a fortune

Hi Pompey, It’s difficult to assess J James Braddock's win today especially in regard to what he beat, that being said he did stay on nicely and with the extra 3 furlongs over the Derby distance who knows. I’m all for keeping the faith as you well know…Epictetus Tuesday, Purosangue Wednesday will either make me or break me. ;)

Do you think Epictetus will stay the extra two furlongs?…I have my doubts but if you can persuade me that he will then I’ll plunge another tenner on the nose…no pressure hey!

I believe the stable think he can stay the extra 2 furlongs because of his his running style..In his last few starts—specifically his narrow defeats earlier this spring—he has been doing his best work at the very end of the race. Jamie Osborne has noted that the horse often looks like he’s just hitting his top gear as the line approaches. By moving to 1m 4f, the team is betting that he has "hidden stamina" that hasn't been tapped into yet.

Saffie Osbourne....as Epictetus regular jockey she knows the horse better than anyone. Her willingness to stick with him over this new distance suggests she believes he will stay the trip. Until a horse proves they can stay 1m 4f, it’s always a gamble. If the pace is slow and it turns into a sprint, his experience at shorter distances might help, but if it’s a true test of stamina, he’ll have to prove he doesn't "run out of gas" at the 1m 2f mark. It’s a bold move, but the stable wouldn't be trying it if the data from his home gallops didn't suggest he could handle it

Hope that helps you make up your mind....I think there's a risk especially with a couple of the other horses who look competent but sometimes it's a case of going with your gut
I'm also taking an interest in another of King Charles horses ( remember when I won with Golden Orbit ) called Portcullis
However Golden Orbit is entered in the Epsom & Irish Oaks

Thanks Pompey…your summary of the horse and race is something akin to that of how a racing columnist would have wrote it…brilliant insight as to its chances and the way the race might be run….not sure what odds he’ll be but if I can get 3/1 and bigger the money will be down.

Portcullis was very impressive and one that looks to have a bright future, not so sure about Golden Orbit’s chances in the Oaks. Her breeding suggests she’ll get the distance but I’m not so sure…she was doing his best work at the end but there were at least five horses within a few lengths of her at the finish, with none of them looking to be group class.

Hi Pompey, I've noticed that Epictetus has drifted markedly in the betting which doesn’t bode well for its chances - 7/2 out to 9/1 - I was going to have a tenner on but have reduced that back to a fiver cus I don’t think it’ll stay the distance. I see Purosangue is now entered up for Newbury (sat) with connections no doubt hoping for some rain.

Hi Onelife, as i said two posts above...."I think there's a risk especially with a couple of the other horses who look competent"

As I've read...."He hasn't lost his ability, but he might have lost that "killer instinct." If he stays the trip, he’ll be right there at the finish, but until he actually passes the post first, he remains a risky proposition for a win bet. He's the ultimate "Each-Way" horse right now."

So now he is @ 11/1 with BF maybe you'll think about ÂŁ2 e/way instead of that fiver win especially as you have doubts
Quote from Onelife ..." cus I don’t think it’ll stay the distance "

As for Portcullis....he is entered to run on Friday at Newmarket or York and after that the St James Stakes & whilst I might have been tempted to make an anti-post bet for the St James....there is also some very strong competition...so I think I'll leave that one alone.

As you know I like sponsoring my bookie, so with this in mind I gave BF another fiver early this morning, having taken 9/1 ... .this is going from bad to worse.

I've had a couple of bets at York tomorrow..."Dark Moon Rising" 14/1...and "Woven" 28/1 both to a ÂŁ5 win stake..I'm hoping it stays dry for Dark Moon Rising and buckets it down for Woven :)
