as I keep all my passwords written down I know you're not supposed to do that
Hi Carole, you're not the only one to do that but I give myself extra security by having the start or at the end of the password with a random number or letter which I ignore when putting in a password. I really should use a password manager just haven't got around to it yet :)

I used to do that too, write down part of the password, just enough to remind me of the whole word. However, after my husband, John, died I discovered the problem of not being able to access sites. He was hopeless at keeping a record of his passwords, especially important when it was things like monetary sites. He tended to say that he'd forgotten a password, click 'forgotten password' and set another one, nightmare. Anyway it then occurred to me that in the future it was important that my daughters be able to access all of my sites. So I have written full passwords down in a notebook and that is kept in the safe. So in the fullness of time they will be able to access everything that's important.
