I'm beginning to fade. I've been up since before 6 and from 7 until 9 I was up at the allotment shovelling sh....horse manure!

We had ordered a load and the farmer said it would be 2 or 3 weeks but we went to water the greenhouse just before 8 last night and found he had dumped a full trailer load which was 6 feet high and completely blocking the track. That would have been fine if he had had the sense to let us know it was there so I could have moved it yesterday evening

Luckily a neighbouring plot holder pitched up to water his own stuff at 8 and kindly helped to shift it or I would probably still have been there now

That was very helpful of him. Not. I hope it's better quality stuff that the delivery I found dumped in my garden many moons ago. Instead of horse manure, I was given a large pile of urine-soaked straw.

There was quite a lot of shavings and hay but that did make it a bit lighter to move and there was a fair amount of the smelly stuff as well so it will be a good enriched soil-improver when it has rotted down. I must say it was steaming well at 7 a.m.

Mrs C kept pointing out how much I was saving by not having to go to the gym. Of course, she couldn't help with the shovelling process due to her two hip-hops so she weeded the leeks whilst offering such crumbs of comfort
