Even Getaways not working?
There has just been an item on the breakfast show about late booking holidays this summer.
apparently because of the good weather many of those who would book a last minute bargain abroad have decided to holiday in britain or even their back gardens!
Simon Calder mentioned 'distressed itineries'
apparently the scilly isles have lots of vacancies
weeks in the greek isles for less then £400
I wonder if this is contributing to those ships sailing with lots of empty cabins.

But: the getaway prices ARE working - even if they are not particularly profitable. We were not planning on a 2nd cruise this year, but a cabin on X215 to Iceland for 12 days could be had for less than the cost of renting our usual self catering one bedroom holiday flat in North Wales for 2 weeks in August. So guess where we are going next week.
P.S. When I looked at the P&O site this morning, all grades of cabins except balcony ones were sold out.

Sorry, I got my year wrong, that should of course be X315

As an update to this message, the P&O site now says this cruise is completely sold out.Not so ancient mariner wrote:Not so ancient mariner wrote:But: the getaway prices ARE working - even if they are not particularly profitable. I think you would have got a much better price for X215

Today, perhaps.......but last year we paid just over twice as much for a similar grade cabin on X215, - though that wasn't a getaway fare and was for 14 days rather than 12.daib GC wrote:

But we got all but £100 back from a combination of P&O and insurance when I broke my ankle 13 days before sailing, and had to cancel.
(That's probably why I wrote X215 rather than X315)
