laundering Bed and bath linens

Unread post by GillD46 »

I was chatting about this with a friend the other day and have googled to see what others do....

How often do you launder your bed and bath linens? I change the bed every four days in winter, about every 2-3 days in summer. We use towels for two days, occasionally just once, and bathrobes for two days too.

My friend couldn't believe I was washing my linens so often, but I do love a clean, fresh bed and clean towels and if I won the lottery, having someone change the bed daily would be one of my treats.

When the dog refuses to come up for her morning cuddle, I know the bed needs changing.

I love getting into a freshly laundered bed too Gill and would put that on my list of treats. I change my bed weekly summer or winter - bit annoying really because one half of the bed is perfectly clean but I can't sleep on my late husband's side - it's just one of those things :(

Towels last a few days but in this weather showering more often they seem to be in the wash all the time. I'm sure I read somewhere that people go months between changes - ych-a-fi as we say in Wales (translation for those who don't know the expression - gross - horrible - yucky)

I suffer from insomnia but in the days when I was busier and changed the beds slighly less often, I noticed I slept better the night that they were changed. Now I have more time, I can afford to do it more often - even though itis a pain doing it!

Our eldest daughter goes weeks - it makes me shudder - whereas our son has his bed changed three times a week - but living in Vietnem he has a maid to do it! Lucky him I say!

Whatever works for the individual.

GillS46,
I also love getting into bed with nice fresh linen. I have sheets 'top and bottom' whilst a lot of people I know only use a bottom sheet.

In the Summer I change them every other day but in the winter usually just twice.

I change towels everyday.

In the Summer I only ever use white linen as it always seems cooler.

HK, When I had a dog he hated clean sheets. He would skuttle them around to make his own 'bed'

Under sheets are done twice a week, pillowcases and duvet covers once a week. All bathroom stuff is only ever used once and then washed - except for mats, and those are done usually weekly.

The other thing I can't stand not keeping fresh are placemats, napkins and that sort of stuff.

Bedding is changed three times a year... at Christmas, after my birthday and our anniversary. :o

Towels (white) are changed when you can't see any white and they look brown/black.

I've realised we must be slobs in our household ... it's once a fortnight for bed linen and once a week for towels - now I know why no-one wants to sit near us

This reminds me of my sons being in uni and telling me NOT to go in the wardrobe in their rooms but me not taking any notice opened the door and was greeted by a pile of dirty clothes and the joke was about pants being worn inside out/back to front etc. etc. Still makes me laugh now

We're just getting to the point of talking about what to pack for the a forthcoming outing, and I think I'll make along the lines of the suggestions on this thread (inside out etc), I'll try and keep a straight face and watch my husband pull a face! It should be priceless!

He's been hinting that maybe we should cut down on the amount of luggage we take, so that's a great wind-up!

Em

Bed Linen, bottom sheet plus duvet cover and pillow cases weekly, towels daily, well that's what Lorraine tells me. :)

So, we all do laundry etc., but how often do you change (as in go and buy new ones and possibly change your colour scheme) your bed linen or towels etc?

Em :?:

Bad assumption about laundry ... I don't even know how the washing machine works .. fortunately the little fairy that deals with such things in our house does and sorts it all out.

As far as bed linen and towels are concerned, I have become somewhat concerned that Julie has a fetish over these ... she has a selection of 8 different duvet sets from which to pick to make up the boudoir ... and, as far as towels are concerned, every time I open our hotpress I am attacked by a pile of them.

I'm developing a cunning plan, having favourite photos from holidays (and special days out and about) made into canvas pictures, and then getting a range of bathroom linen and accessories to match, and I can have a swap around on wet and miserable days if I get bored.

So, I've got a long list of colours and shades that I want to include in future photos - roll on the next outing!

Must be a colloquialism ... I think it is otherwise known as an airing cupboard.

We have three sets of exactly the same Dorma bedding that I use. I have decorated the bedroom to tone, so it is always restful and pleasing to "our" eyes. As for how often we buy new bed linen, sheets about every year, as I do like crisp pure cotton, but duvet covers, pillow slips, bed throws etc not that often, I guess when it needs replacing, which can vary depending on the quality. But always when we decorating.

Towels about every year or so.

Em,
I must admit I have a thing about quilt covers and throw overs.

I think they can make a bedroom look different week be week.

I have several sets of warm colours which I change around in the winter and 4 lightweight throw overs in cooler colours for the summer.

The bathroom takes on a new look everyday with the colour of the towels.

Tucked away I have quite a lot of Caithness paperweights which I have kept for sentimental reasons. These can add extra colour to the bedroom on 'colour ' change day.
