Help needed for TIVOLI GARDENS

Unread post by topbaz »

A p & o tour that includes a 50 min boat trip before tivoli is only for 4 hours including transfers ect, so assuming its busy theres not going to be enough time for many rides in tivoli if any, Has anyone done tivoli independently, If so is it possible to walk from ship ? or how much taxi or bus, Any information would be appreciated .Thanks

It is walkable but much easier to take the bus which drops you in the main square and just a short walk to Tivoli , I can't remember what the cost was but it wasn't that much.

Tivoli is wonderful ... enjoy

It's a while ago for us, but try whatsinport.com - you might find information there.

It rather depends where you dock. If you're near the Little Mermaid then it's perfectly walkable. We took a taxi into town, then did a boat trip, had a look in the shops, it was Sunday but quite a few were open, had lunch at the top of Nyhavn and then walked back to the ship. If my wife can walk it then anyone can. Tivoli is a bit further out of the town centre. Try having a look on Google Maps for the distances.

Tivoli is about 30 mins walk from Little Mermaid. Head to Nyhaven (good for herring buffets) and then follow the main pedestrianised street through the city which leads to the Town Hall Square and Tivoli just across the road.

I would suggest walking in via Nyhaven and the city centre, and getting a taxi back. It cost less than 20 euro for four of us 4 years ago.

On our first visit we did the boat trip/Tivoli Gardens tour. I sailed small dinghies for many years, and I was more scared on the boat we were on than I ever was sailing. We were crowded onto the glass topped boat, 6 of us to a table of 4, and the lifebelts were under the seats. Never been so pleased to get of a boat in my life!

Whilst walking through the town look out for Halberstadt, the jewellers who are famous for their gold and diamond miniature train in the shop window pulling little trucks full of precious and semi-precious stones.
I was taught to be cautious

The Tivoli Gardens are wonderful when seen at night and especially so on a Christmas Cruise, at any other time I wouldn't bother.

ps ... the Carlsberg Brewery would be a much better option

We walked to Tivoli from the Little Mermaid and got the shuttle back in time for second sitting. As it was Boxing Day we got to see Tivoli all lit up.

we walked there via the (very)little mermaid, the palace, the canal bit that's on the postcards and through the shops. It was flat and a pleasant walk.

we walked back again too!

Just out of interest, going off topic slightly, is the Little Mermaid back now?

I agree that the Carlsberg Brewery is a better option. The official P&O Tour (when we did it) stopped en-route at the Palace for a photo stop, but we felt very rushed through the museum itself with little chance to read the information provided. As it was a half-day tour we asked to be dropped at Tivoli on the return to the ship, from where we wandered back via the route mentioned previously. Perhaps get a taxi and DIY?

Last time we were in Copenhagen (Dec 2011 on Fred O), there was a hop on/off bus service from the end of the quay. I don't remember how much it was but it was ideal on a rainy day to avoid the walk. I don't think Fred O provided a shuttle (certainly not a free one). We used it all the way round early in the day and then later on went to the Tivoli on it as well, after the weather improved, so we got our value. By the time we came out the bus had finished and we had to get a normal bus back to the quay but that was easy enough. Overall, it probably would have been cheaper for a one off return journey for the four of us to use taxis.

The Tivoli was great with its Christmas market. I'm not sure quite how good it would be without this. The rides are relatively small in comparison to the bigger theme parks but might still be fun. The garden element of it is very attractive but we were seeing it in December, so it would be very different in the summer. If I remember correctly, most rides were closed when we were there as the park was given over to the market.

Thanks for all your replies, unfortunately we will be back on board and unable to see tivoli lit up in the evening, but its purely for the rides, vitigo, demon, dragon and the new ride aquila i am looking at tivoli,my better half will love the gardens, but not the rides.
Now the carlsberg tour looks interesting but not sure thats her cup of tea either
Wonder if i need a pint of carlsberg to get the courage to go on the rides---now theres a thought

as said the hop on hop off is a good way to get there, do the tour, then it drops you at the gates of Tivoli when you have had enough gloog and rides get the bus back to the ship, I think it was about £12.

take a good map and walk, there was a bus but the queue so long. The gardens reminded me of the old Battersea fun fare gardens ...very vintage. There's a delightful old coffee shop in the far corner we had morning coffee and a Danish pastry in there !
