Ok, well after checking into our hotel (had a slight blip and tried to check into the wrong one first but that was the taxi driver's fault), we set off for the banks of the Thames and a walk round the Tate Modern. There were some lovely pieces there that I think were done my the local primary school children. I gave my critique of Picasso (he's a bit crap) to my horrified friend who is an arty type, then we sat by the river and had some lovely wine. Tbc...

I equate Picasso to used toilet paper.... vastly over-rated, total waste of materials.

I might have known that my cultural weekend would be beyond the limited imaginations of a Percy Thrower wannabe with a love of bingo, a northerner that dresses up as a cartoon character and wears muscle vests and a man who loves scanning and searching for statues of a plasticine dog. Up your collective bums!

After strolling back to the hotel for a quick change we went to find somewhere for dinner - the kids chose Nando's but I was too excited to eat so just had a glass of wine. Then we went to the Globe!!! It is brilliant! It was a beautiful sunny evening and we got a drink while we waited to take our seats - a bottle of cider, a glass of wine and 2 mini pots of Pringles for the kids came to a staggering £15.60, but as I'm not northern I managed not to pass out. We had great seats, just behind the yard and the performance (Macbeth) was wonderful, the chap playing Macbeth was a bit gorgeous too which was a bonus. Are you all enjoying this so far?

Whereabouts were you staying? We normally stay just outside London when we go (found a good Premier Inn in Slough, which we're going back to in a couple of weeks, also at Northwick Park, right next to the station). The Lady C and Welshy went to the Globe a couple of years back and said it was great, but they didn't go to see a play. It's a nice stretch of the Thames along there.

Shiny, we stayed at The Ibis Styles, Southwark, a couple of minutes walk from the Globe. The room was £97 for a twin, with breakfast, a great price for that location.
