morning laggards
right the Merc is off the list as I refuse to pay for all the extra's to bring it up to a decent spec and I am not paying all that tax just to have a merc
so it is a large estate or a 4x4 crossover job

Get a Hyundai - my father-in-law (a confirmed "BMW" fan) traded up to a Hyundai and is now getting another one.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
sorry SS not for me
might be a Mazda CX 5, Skoda superb estate or a Passat estate
its not a bad list but the premium brands do skimp on equipment and every thing is an option, whereas the Ford and Skoda have all the toys, loads of space plus a decent engine
the Mazda is a toy really but comes well equiped but not the best engine

Each to his own, DK. For me, the Hyundai has a decent standard of equipment at a fair price, but I am aware that others have different criteria. BMWs are very popular but it seems that their drivers are the worst on the roads. I don't travel well in the back seat of a car - BMWs are the only make I've been in so far where I feel ill in the front, so that is definitely not a make for me.

SS
wouldn't have a BMW, even if it were free, the social stigma is just too much
as Lady D has downsized her car, we need something to fit the dogs in, should we need to go to the vets etc, so a big estate or a large-ish 4x4 would be okay
it has to be robust and confortable to do 100,000 miles in 3 years, so sports and hot hatches are out,
its probably different when the only consideration I have to look at is the tax bill and nothing else??

When you say 4x4, I believe Reliant did once make a car with 4 wheels rather than 3. I imagine you could pick one up at a reasonable price now.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
I have stumbled into an episode of Top Gear, without the funny bits. Cars are boooorrrrrring, as long as you pick a nice colour you can't go far wrong.
