Notso - Adge Cutler (the wurzels) was born in Portishead - which is in Bristol.

Near, yes: - but it's stretching it a bit to say it's in Bristol. It's at the North end of that little railway with the interesting initials, the Weston, Clevedon & Portishead.

To go by train from Weston Super Mare to Portishead, you had to get on the W.C. & P. (!)
Notso - please do not worry your little head about the Wurzels or Portishead.
Portishead is a little village - their address is e.g 111 High Street, Portishead, Bristol. BS20 whatever and the village is a few miles from the centre of Bristol.
Sooooo - if you were talking to someone from Cumbria and they asked where you were from - you would answer Portishead - a little village just outside Bristol and the majority of people would think 'Bristol'
cos they knows where that is!

Can we please change the subject and concentrate on me winning

My last posting on this subject:

According to Portishead Town council, as of Dec 2009 the population was 22,000 and the article goes on to say that over the next few years the population was expected to grow by a further 8000, making it one of the largest towns in North Somerset. (their words - my italics) It falls within the unitary authority of North Somerset, although oddly enough the area below high-water mark, including the pier, is within Bristol

So you were right about that much, a very small bit of it is within Bristol ,  Here endeth my comments

'tis the same with Bradley Stoke - it's a town in the county of South Gloucestershire, yet everyone seems to think it is a suburb of Bristol. No wonder we can't get companies to invest in the place....

btw, I'm winning

Notso - you are obviously related to my OH's family as they will argue until the bitter end that they are always right about everything!
Historically Portishead and, even Bradley Stoke, were under Bristol postcodes - I expect someone in the Council had been on the sherry when they were allocated.
This is obvious to me as I now live in Somerset but I have a Bath postcode!

Northumberland Avenue is my favoured site, having worked there for over three years.

I'm still in the lead though.

Actually the Bristol (BS) postal area stretches as far south as Wedmore in Somerset, and the Bath (BA) postal area goes all the way to Yeovil. :P (and Melksham- where I used to live - has a Swindon postcode!)
