Thanks for all the info on this city we have decided to DIY and after Debs gave us the info on the Metro thought we would do the following:-

Shuttle bus into Barcelona, Metro to Sagreda Familia, then Metro to Park Guell then walk from Park Guell back to the ship.

Will this be doable do you think?

Depends on how long you like to dwell of course but I would say ' Yes ' and with plenty of time to spare to meander down Las Ramblas else to visit the Old Town.

It's a fair trek back from Park Guell. 5.7km to the bottom of Las Ramblas.

Look for 'La Boqueria'. Halfway down (or up) on the west side. Keep your hands on your valuables.

Thanks everyone, I didn't realise it was nearly 6km to walk back I thought nearer 4 may have to rethink, perhaps a metro back to the Sagreda and then walk back down The Ramblas, does the Metro run frequently like our own underground?

We were lucky that a friend took us in her car to all the places above, but it was a fair trek back down again!! Lovely views of the bay though

The Shuttle Bus goes to the Christopher Columbus Column, or it did, and that is at one end of Las Ramblas. We have not used the Metro but is it an option to do a return trip to the Cathedral with a detour return to the Park .... then to walk up and around Las Ramblas ?

The itinerary you mention is certainly do-able by Metro. Bear in mind there is about half a mile walk from the Metro to Parc Guell, much of it uphill. It is signposted although we just followed the crowds. Just follow the M signposts on the way back to find the station again. The Metros run frequently so not a lot of hanging about for the next train.
Pepending on how long you like to wander we did Parc Guell and La Ramblas comfortably in a day, taking everything in. Why not save Sagrada Familiale for another time for there is usually plenty to see on La Ramblas and around the market?

OBF Parc Guell looks fascinating and can't wait to look around. To be honest didn't realise just how big it is and how many fascinating things there are to see there. Thanks for the tip re: the Metro signs.

I picked a lot up by putting Barcelona into Google and then going into Tourist Information. Not only do you get information on tourist sites but the Metro maps are there too.
And of course asking questions on the P&O Site. The same people who answered are on here.

Sagrada Familiale is always busy, lots of queuing, but well worth it IMO

HOHO buses are well worth the few Euros it costs to use, three routes colour coded plus included headphones to listen to on board commentary

Barcelona have the most devious street criminals, they work in gangs - even use wee children

Thanks Moby and GFW, had read reports on the pickpockets so we are going to use bum bags and may take our old camera to Barcelona rather than the new one. Have read some quite scarey stories. But still looking forward to going

Another tip for when you are in Barcelona is to use Mcdonalds if you want to buy a drink. I was in Barecelona in sept and as Hubby is in a wheelchair we decided to just wander round Ramblas and look in the market and do a bit of shopping in El Corte Inglais with a stop for a drink in the restaurant. Unfortunately it was a bank holiday and everywhere was shut. Instead we stopped at the top of Las Ramblas for a coke. It was only about 10.30 am and lots of people were already drinking wine but even for me this was too early so we ordered 3 small cokes. I nearly fainted when we got the bill for 17 euros. I would imagine the wine must have been cheaper. lol
