Maureen, I always think trousers need to fit but you can get away with dresses being loose in fact I always think they can make you look slimmer if they are looser

The very bad news is that when I got home on Friday I weighed in and had put a massive 2 stones on.

I need to lose this hopefully as quick as I put on. This morning the weight appears to have settled and I now have 25 lbs to lose to get back to target weight.

I aim to break this down and want to lose 11 lbs by the end of April.

I realise this will not be easy as Easter is not long away and our son and DIL will be visiting for 10 days.

I need to get back in the Zone.

Hello Sue,

Now that target isn't going to be easy.... but it's achievable.

Just a little tip that works for me....whenever l'm tempted to raid the biscuit barrel l switch on the kettle and make a cuppa instead. You may have to pay fequent visits to the loo but you'll be burning more calorie because of it....win win  :)

Best of luck.

The trouble is, Sue, those cuppas aren't half as much fun as cocktails of the day but I'm sure you'll get there eventually. Maureen.

Sue, this amount of weight swing in a short period can not be good for your health!

Cholesterol down from 5.6 to 5.2 - ie, the top end of the "safe" level. Doctor says no further checks required.

Mine's now down to 4.4 and that's after I junked the statins a year ago because they were clogging up my brain. Eat sensibly and get regular exercise is the best thing you can do.

Hi Romig,

I think that depends on how Sue goes about it....if as l believe Sue started her diet on Monday she has thirty days to lose 11 lbs. It is my understanding that if you start a "proper" diet you are likely to lose more in the first week than you will thereafter, so taking this into consideration if Sue lost 4 lbs in the first week and 2 lbs per week over the remaining 23 days then l think with the right nutritional balanced food intake this is achievable in my "unquilified" opinion. Hovever, to try and do the same the following month wouldn't l think be advisable.

Remember that fat cells take two years to disappear so it's something you have to stick at. It means a change in lifestyle.

Hi QB,

l've been on statins for years (father died of heart attack age 47, both of my sisters have had heart attacks) and l'm pleased to say with no side effects. Once l reach my target weight it would be nice to think l might be able to reduce the dose along with that of my blood presure tablets. I have noticed my blood presure giving more healthy readings and my colestol has been well controled up till now...it will be intresting to see if my doctor advises any change in my medication at my next "well man" check up.

You are right but neither is being 2 stone over weight and the only way I can lose it is by being very strict with myself. I have always put weight on quickly especially when on holiday which is why when not on hol I am on a permanent diet. I am hoping that because it went on over a 2 month period it will cone off at the same rate.

Sue

Sue, 2stone is a lot of weight in a comparably short time. Am I being un realistic in thinking that once you get back to 'normal' living you will initially lose quite a few pounds without trying. Over the next couple of weeks hopefully your scales will show a loss that will give you the encouragement to get to the target you have set yourself.

Well I think you've been remarkably restrained on your cruise Sue - i usually put on a pound a day !

Although, on that basis, I'm not sure I would actually live to the end of a world cruise line yours :o

P.s.when you say you "need to get back in the zone", I am assuming "The Zone" isn't the name of the local burger joint ? ;)

Me too Keith! Atorvastatin reduced my cholesterol much better than Simvastatin, and had no side effects. My blood pressure varies considerably and even has some really low readings 108/60, but I cant seem to get it below 136/87 average, no matter how much weight I lose, and that is still too high.

It was Atorvastatin that did for me. I was on 80mg a day and I just couldn't think clearly and had no drive or ambition whatsoever. As soon as I stopped taking it I was bright and breezy within hours, so much so that everybody noticed an instant and dramatic improvement. Add to that the muscle and joint pains, the frozen shoulder and the unbelievable night sweats and I concluded that they were doing nothing but harm. My cholesterol is now down to what it should be without them so my doctor's not objecting. Now all I need to do is to lose weight :)

Hi QB

I'm not surprised that you were going weak at the knees on that dosage of astrovstatin as 80mg is a preety hefty dose. It's also stronger than simvastatin so no wonder you were getting aches and pains. You must have had quite high colestorol reading + high blood presure for your doctor to put you on that dosage....if you are over weight then there's plenty of room for another member in the Onelife pinch-an-inch diet club  :)

Further to my last post if there are any of you looking to lose a few lbs before your next cruise then onelife and his happy bunch of pinchers are here to help. :)

Remember there is no signing on fee but a small donation to the onelife cruise fund would be appricated.

Stay strong pinchers and remember..."banana fritters are trouser splitters"

Hi Keith,

It wasn't abnormal even before my (small) heart attack so according to my doctor I was 'unlucky'. It was the surgeons who gave me that dose. We met somebody on holiday in France last year who was on 160mg a day and according to his wife he was in a terrible state, no energy, couldn't walk anywhere, ached all over. Mind you, he had suffered a severe heart event so who are we to question?

Onelife and QB, I have recently been put on blood pressure tablets and statins.

My BP and cholesterol readings have been the same for a year but the GP said these readings plus my age and weight are put on a graph over a 5 year period which might put me at risk.

For BP I am on 5mg Amlodipine each morning and 2.5 mg Ramipril in the evening taken with 40mg Simvastin. These sound very small quantities to what others take and I am not being reviewed for another year so hopefully it is a precautionary measure. I have been advised to do my own BP once a month to keep it around 140/90.
