HEATED POOLS IN APRIL?
Hello all. I am packing for my mini cruise on Azura to Zeebrugge, sail Friday. Can anyone please tell me if The outdoor pools will be heated, or is this a silly question.

We have just come back from the arctic on oriana. The pools were heated and the hot tubs steaming.

P&O claim that pools are heated to 24C - which in my book is not that warm - although compared to the temperatures in the Arctic they could possibly be considered as a heatwave

I think there is some lunatic Euro law about the maximum temperature pools can be heated to - environmental stuff and bizarre in the case of P&O ship pools which are heated by waste heat from the engines. They used to be 28-30 degrees but as David says they are now cooler. We've noticed the same with hotel pools etc. I don't quite see the point in heating pools to a temperature at which many people won't use them. It may be less energy used, but it's wasted energy! I do realise, however, that for some people the temperature was too high before, but is now lovely. For us, Trish in particular, an extra degree or two would be welcome.

I can't stand swimming in cold water and have not been to a public baths for many, many years for that reason. In the Fatherland we used to visit a spa pool where the water was nice and warm with powerful jets at the side to give your back a bit of a massage/pummelling. Lovely!! You could then swim outside through a curtained tunnel where the water was just as warm despite a couple of feet of snow on the ground. Ever since then I have avoided cold water swimming. If the water's cold I get out.

When I were a lad our outdoor swimming pool was filled from the sea with salt water at its natural temperature.

You wouldn't want to swim in it nowadays, especially in those woolly, knitted swimming trunks (girls had the bobbly, stretchy things)!!!

I sometimes go to Pennyhill Park Spa, when my DIL treats me and the pool is like that there, amazing swimming outside surrounded by snow. Center Parcs is the same, we were swimming the rapids last year at the end of November. No idea what the water temp was, but is was hotoldbluefox wrote:I can't stand swimming in cold water and have not been to a public baths for many, many years for that reason.
