Ajaccio - Corsica

Unread post by Romig1 »

Going here for the first time in May.

Don't know anything about the place except the connection with Napoleon.

Is there anything to see or do (on a P&O tour or otherwise) or is it a wander around town and back on the ship for lunch and sunbathing type of place?

There is a little choo-choo train or an open top bus ... they both go to the same places for about 10 Euro pp. Nice enough ride but not amazing, certainly a walk-about sort of place as you will park in the front garden.

Keep an eye out for the beautiful turquoise waters as you sail in / out.

Don't know whether things have improved but when we were there, about five years ago, it was the dog es ache eye tee capital of the world; never seen as much of the stuff or as many mini dogs on lengths of string being paraded about :(

DIY..

Unless you are into Napoleon don't bother with the organised tour...The main square and Napolean's house are walkable distance from the port...We tied up along side almost in the town centre..a long flat prom with loads of coffee houses, perfect for people watching and right opposite the ship there was a market and well worth a look around.

They do a faily good Island Tour that takes you into the island's interior but that ain't much...in fact we spent longer at a village tea rooms than any where else.

Ain't done it but spoke to some people who did a visit to the Turtle farm which they seemed to enjoy.

Thanks all.

I guess it will be the DIY option, followed by a lie in the (hopefully) sun.

Good plan R. It is a pretty enough little place - picturesque harbour if you like that sort of thing (I do!) and a nice walk along the seafront at the back of the town to a more rugged, rocky bay beyond

From where you dock as others have said Napoleons house an easy walk.

There is a beach and if you feel adventurous you can get some jet ski's if you walk around the harbour.

Enjoy

Quiet little spot memorable for not being memorable. Make it a quiet day in the sun.
