Seabourn Sojourn

Unread post by Esprit »

We had a tour of the ship last Saturday in Southampton and came away a little disappointed.

The suites were very nice indeed and the ship size was OK considering we've been used to 100K+ tonne ships. There was no "Wow" factor however and the décor was very understated. Public rooms were obviously fewer but then they only have to cater for 450 passengers.

I was so sure I would love the brand with its inclusivity, but I've come away wanting to go on Royal Princess even more. It's also raised my anticipation of cruising on Celebrity Reflection in three weeks time and enjoying once again the premium alcohol package.

Can any Seabourn cruisers tell me what have I missed from my Seabourn experience please.

It was parked outside my office window yesterday ... It looked really small, but immaculate

I think you would not have had enough time to experience the true Seabourn product. Yes you saw the ship and some people like the " Not Too Glitzy " look.
The staff are second to none, knowing you by name on the second day, plus the food is more or less cooked to order, especially in the Buffet area at breakfast.

Yes you can tell that I am a Seabourn fan having sailed with them quite a few times. If I had a choice it would be Seabourn every time but the prices preclude me from doing this every cruise.

I guess you get what you pay for. I don't think you can expect to get the feel of a ship, on any cruise line, until you have sailed on them and then you may be able to give an honest opinion.

My view you understand, and yes you get all your beverages in with the cruise price, including a very good Champagne. You also get you in suite bar set up to your liking.

I think you are right Oceaniafan.

The absence of passengers didn't help. The absence of an atrium was also odd but was told the "Square" was the heart of the ship. I personally didn't like it, as it just reminded me of a departure lounge with an abundance of computers!

The Club looked cosy but as both me and my wife enjoy dancing, the floor was far too small for anything other than a jive.

I did like the main pool and outdoor bars however, but it reminded me of the retreat area on Royal Princess.

For my wife, the nail in the coffin was the one formal night on 7/10 night cruises which was "optional"!
