Craft Session`s on P&O

Unread post by incawat »

I`ve heard from a reliable source that P&O intend to use a member of the entertainment team to run craft sessions.
Can anyone confirm this, if so when will it be starting.

I am afraid I can't answer your question but I have a particular interest in photography and have thought that they could easily run proper courses - learning how to use all the features on the average DSRL or compacts - "get off auto", landscape composition, portraits etc.
On a 2 week cruise it could cover a lot of ground.
On our last trip we found the sea days did drag (not suitable weather for sitting out B of B in feb) and for us the daily dose of quizes, bingo etc got a bit monotonous.
I am sure that there are many other interests and hobbies that P &O could tap into to freshen up the daily activities.

We haven't attended 'proper' courses (apart from the one we paid for), but have attended sessions on two P & O cruises where we've gained a lot about the things you mention here. They were run by the photographers on board and both varied according to their ability to get the facts across. They were advertised in the daily newspaper, and there were 10 sessions on both cruises. I've also done a practical session in New Orleans about night photography (£5). The success of the sessions depended on the student practising what was shown.

They already do run various craft sessions on board , so far I've done making a flower button hole, learnt how to send e mails and shop on line ( I'm a bit of a technophobe ! ) water colour painting, cross stitch, and cookery workshops. There was also a photography course on Azura last year and embroidery classes. Don't know why the entertainment team would run them unless they have a talent in a particular craft.

They had art classes on my recent Azura cruise.

They weren't run by the Ents team - they had someone , I presume an art teacher, on board to do this.

It was a longer cruise, so I think they are more inclined to get specialists onboard as there's more need for activities on the increased amount of sea days

Over the years I have attended many Craft Classes. I think the majority were ones where there were quite a few sea days together

I have also known members of Staff take classes. I remember on our first USA trip we made cuddly toys. They were from kit form, so not a lot of expertise needed ;)

The best craft class I attended was Beading. The teacher (who was not a member of the Ents team) used to say "Trust me I'm a Beader". Not very funny, but we always laughed. We made some very nice jewellery. Of course this sort of thing has to be paid for.

I have also done knitting..... Wonderful flouncy scarfs.

No mention of craft classes. Does this mean they don 't have them anymore? Certainly there were no craft classes on our recent 17 day cruise on Arcadia. Only thing available was an art class. I have done some really excellent craft classes in the past, making some really lovely things.

Oh, dear, it's Arcadia we are on in January, and I was hoping for a craft session regularly. She's in for refit soon and I suspect, if there are any new cabins, they won't be housing non-paying people. I'm pleased to hear there were art classes, though, on her earlier. I've already started sorting out what to take with me, craftwise, but still hope P & O are not stopping the craft sessions run by people who know what they are doing. I've had a brilliant beading teacher, with a new project every seaday and a clay model teacher who got us all making items we were all very proud of. You can only do this if you know your craft.

Ah they have disappeared so we can assume they have ended. It did say they only held them when ther were x number of sea days per cruise....

Jack was the art teacher on Aurora last November and he was very good. I'm glad to hear he is still being employed by P&O - my friends and I used to have a drink with him in the evenings. He usually travelled on his own and was often to be seen reading in one of the bars until we disturbed him ;) Seriously he was very approachable and dedicated - his classes were very well attended and always overran.
