How Would You Rate P&O?

Unread post by david63 »

In several topics recently there has been some discussion as to what "star" rating P&O is - and this has varied.

So, just for fun, what do you think P&O is?

I would rate P&O as a good, solid 3* these days. Good value for money, but not luxury.

I'd say 4* on the whole

If we are using the hotel industries model of stars awarded for facilities and service level.

As DK says, it's not high end but then doesn't really pretend to be.

I voted 4*

Not high end, but still slightly more than mid market

If the star system represents facilities it is 4 star but service would be 3 star plus

The P&O hardware is good and the crews are getting friendlier but for a solo cruiser the only advantage is the good hardware and single supplements below the american levels.

Other cruislines treat solo cruisers better than P&O. Hosted breakfast, lunch and dinner with free drinks anyone! The single supplement is around 30% as well or even 0%!

P&O is firmly middle market and gradually shaking off its 'faded raj' image.

Judging by 4 star hotels I have been in I rated P&O 4 star as well bearing in mind the whole package. And compared to most 4 star hotels they represent very good value for money but don't tell them otherwise they'll put the prices up.
I was taught to be cautious

I think I agree with you Ray.
I've given them 4* because the service you receive from the staff is far better than some 4* hotels I've stayed in. I think the food is not as good as it was on our very first cruise which was only in 2011 but what can you expect from a mass market cruiseline. :sarcasm:

I would go for almost 4 star ... P&O are a great line that stacks up very well against the competition in the middle of the market ... I agree with Ray though that some of the customers let them down ... Some snobbery, some inverted snobbery, some 'it's my holiday so i will do what i want' ... But the majority are just every day people enjoying a great holiday.

I voted 4* as our last cruise on Adonia deserved that mark.
Aurora at the end of April would have been 3* I don't know what it was but it just didn't do it for me,the wife doesn't agree but she's not a member so can't vote..

I think that the service is going downhill..... Definitely not as good as it used to be.

Just read the P&O FB page.. OMG, moan, moan, moan.. If they did this poll it would be 1 star. Me I am still happy with them - just the odd niggle.

I was quite generous and gave it 3+, but back in 2011 I would probably have given it 4 or even 4+, and this rapid slippage should be what worries P&O management.
It now offers a good value cruise for anyone booking a cheap getaway deal, but for those who have to book Vantage it is grossly overpriced.

I think it all depends on what your starting point is.First time cruisers would probably rate P & O a good 4*+ product.Other more seasoned cruisers who have been cruising for some years and can make comparisons with previous cruises or other lines might mark it down a grade to a solid 3*+ or 4*.I think P and O is still good value for money if not right at the top end anymore.
