2015 cruises with P&O

Unread post by daib GC »

All the 2015 itineraries are up on the unofficial FB site if you are interested.

There are lots and lots of new and interesting ports.

On Adonia I counted 25+ with some I have not even heard of.

Oriana has a few new ones as well at least 12. When I say new I mean have not been used in the last 5 to 10 years.

Sevastopol? They might have to think again....
Celebrity have several Ukrainian ports on their 2015 schedule, too.

had a look at the offerings
the pricing is fairytale money and offer no incentive to book anything, given the past pricing debacles, IF I wanted to book any of them, I would wait till the very last second

I can thoroughly recommend that trip Gill - I did it two years ago the highlight being the New Orleans stopover - go for it

I'm with you DK

My 'policy' is wait until I'm tempted by the price.
If I get it, great, if not, never mind.
Plenty more about.

Exactky Barney
people are too stuck in the mud when it comes to PandO, they should try other lines
Some bloke on Facebook last night was waxing lyrical about all the wonderful new ports they were offering
if he had done his homework, he would have seen it was the same countries and the "new" ports were just more of the same, hardly breaking the mould

Why should they try other lines if they have found something they like, at a price they are comfortable with? Maybe in the past they have tried other lines but have found P&O/Thomson/Fred or whatever line suits them. I expect there are hundreds of people who would be in that position.

As for new countries I cannot think of any new countries being created in the past few million years. Go around the Med or the Baltic and you will be going to the same countries over and over again. However it is good to see that P&O are including some different ports from the usuals.

I can't help feeling some people are stuck in the mud in running down P&O because they have discovered a different cruise experience. The fact it is different does not mean it is necessarily better, only that it is different. That is what we should be embracing rather than the 'my cruise line is better than yours' routine.

Just a thought.

Foxy
another take on it would be some people have only ever gone with PandO and do all they can to justify their choice
without having done anything else and therefore having nothing to compare to
so it is hollow praise indeed, similar to somebody who only ever drives Ford saying BMW are rubbish

If nothing else the fact that there are some new (or reintroduced in some cases) ports shows that P&O are listening to what their passengers are saying. The issue that I have with what I have seen of the "new" ports is that you may get two new ports on your cruise and six "old" ports so I am not sure that I would be that interested in the new ports as such.

In any event P&O when sailing from Southampton can only manage to call at a limited number of countries in the two/three weeks available and I would hazard a guess that the only countries that they do not visit are those where there is some form of risk - all of the other countries are landlocked and it aint easy getting a cruise ship overland

Our first, and major, criteria for choosing a cruise/cruise line is that it departs from and arrives back in the UK (Liverpool would be good  ) - some may say that is restricting our choice of cruise, and it probably is, but that is what we want, and anyway we see enough of airports/planes when going on other holidays.

Over the years we have sailed with five or six other cruise lines (I will however accept that they will have probably all changed over the years) but still find that P&O is our cruise line of choice as it ticks most of the boxes.

'similar to somebody who only ever drives Ford saying BMW are rubbish'
In fairness DK I haven't heard anybody decrying other lines. If they are happy with P&O/Fred/RCI/Cunard then that's fair enough to me. Some people go to Blackpool or Benidorm year after year but if that's what tickles their fancy then so be it. You have found a company which suits you better than P&O and that's great. However you will probably find there are loads of people who are equally as passionate about Thomson just as there are those who will go with nobody but P&O. As I say if that's what they like I can't see a problem.

Very true Foxy
each to their own, but there is always room for opinion wether pro or against?
mine just happens to be against, nothing more, except I have tried an alternative so can be more objective, than some
I had a good long look at the 2015 cruises and I found them to be over priced at the moment and found little to interest me, I am looking at other options like HAL and Celeb, to see how they fare

Just out of interest (and I am not trying to start a fight) but what do you consider "overpriced" to be in comparison to "underpriced/correctly priced"

well I do consider an outside on Aurora at £128.50 per person per night over prices for the Baltic cruises
especially knowing it will drop significantly by the end of summer

Which begs the question - what do you consider to be the "right" price?

That's the real crux DK, you are pretty well certain that they will come down in price, not that they are overpriced in the first place.

Ref HAL, a friend of mine used them last year, loved it but was horrified with his bill at the end.

perhaps the phrase
initailly overpriced may be a more apt description
just priced up virtually the same cruise with Celebrity including s drinks package and it is cheaper per night than PandO
so does that make it over prices or not?

Well I was on FB shouting about all the new ports. Good god man what do you want. I counted ln excess of 36 ports that either they have never been to or have not visited for some time. After all the garbage which is thrown P&O's way, especially on here I think it is something to shout about.

So wait until near the end to book, but you can do that for any cruise line including Celebrity.

Some people p, like myself do not fly, or find it so much hassle it is not worth it so P&O is a godsend. It does what no other cruise line does it gives me cruising from th UK 12 month a year with a good choice of ship, at a good standard.

So when the company come out with something new and fresh I will shout it out so that everyone who has always shouted same as same as can eat their words.

Happy Cruising

Barney's right DK - swings and roundabouts. Not sure that doing a price comparison with Aurora is a good reflection as I saw some very tasty offers on Ventura and Oceana for much less than that especially if you took of the 5% for past passengers and the extra 5% for Portunus passengers. It also depends when and where you want to go. Indeed it's all smoke and mirrors, swings and roundabouts and they all play that game. It's not just P&O but somewhere along the way they know how much to extort from us and they will get it whether it be through tips, drinks prices, excursions or whatever.

I have been tracking prices on some cruises for a number of months and I can assure you that the cost of some cruises has increased since first publication, others have dropped. It's all a gamble if you want certain cruises.
