You only need a visa if you're going ashore independently, which is not advised unless you speak Russian. Any tourist visas are handled by P&O or by any local tour operator that you might choose. These are highly recommended by those that have used them, I'm sure others will suggest some names. Any cost is included in the tour price.

Completely agree with QB.

Not only would I not go ashore independently unless I could speak/read Russian but the cruise terminal in St Petersburg is some considerable way from the centre.

The Baltic cruise is definitely one not to miss, Graham, with St Petersburg very much the highlight - we would recommend an independent tour company when you are there - there is lots of information in the "Destinations" section of the forum under "Baltic" or "St Petersburg". Don't worry about the visa, as the boys have said, it's all taken care of.

If you book a private tour then you will see much more that p & o trips take you too. You will be emailed a tour ticket and you just take this ashore with your passport , no visa is required, and they will be waiting for you at the terminal. We used TJ Travel who are very good. You can either book a private tour in a car with 4/6 people or they also have a noticeboard where you can look for others on the same cruise who wish to make up a party.

We are booked on R511 too. We have done St Petersburg before and did our own thing in Helskinki, Stockholm, Tallin, and Copenhagen - all very easy to get around. As we had been to Oslo before we did the P & O trip to Vigeland Sculpture Park. As posted below we took a private tour with another couple in St Petes, with TJ Travel and we hae booked again with them.

All your ports are dead easy DIY, bar St Petes, but book a P&O trip to Lubeck from Travemunde.

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

We used TJ Travel in St Petersburg a couple of years ago, have often recommended them to others and had nothing but excellent reports. Of course, there are other, tour companies in the market :!:

Phew!! I'm glad about that, Doreen. They are good, aren't they? Professional, efficient, flexible and reasonably priced and no time wasted getting on and off coaches, waiting for latecomers and queueing for most things.
