Ajaccio on your own
Earlier this year while cruising the Western Mediterranean on Ventura we called at the port of Ajaccio.
Made famous as the birth place of Napoleon Bonaparte it proved very difficult to escape from the fact that he is the most revered person on the island of Corsica.
Having said that there is a lot more to Ajaccio than meets the eye. Ajaccio is a great port visit. It is very easy to navigate on a DIY basis, there is lots to see with plenty of shops and some excellent restaurants. For height of summer ship visits there are also some excellent beaches.
Better still, if your cruise ship is returning to Southampton there are some really good purchases to be made either from the local farmer's market or the many shops.
Close to the ship's berth there are many local tour operators running boat trips around the Corsican coast.
