VE commemoration concert

Unread post by Mervyn and Trish »

Just been watching the VE Day commemoration concert. First thought is gratitude for the people who lived and fought through those dark times.

But second is for the BBC. A lot of people like to knock them and of course Auntie Beeb does get things wrong sometimes, especially since I stopped working for them!

But did Sky put on this concert? Or ITV? Or Netflix? Or the Daily Mail? No. The BBC did. And for that Auntie deserves due credit.

Didn't watch it Merv, but if the BBC put it on then I imagine they managed to sew some left wing propaganda into it.

A very entertaining and moving experience. Well done the BBC.
And oddly enough nothing political about it at all.

I found it very appropriate, dignified and enjoyable. The only thing I noticed they got wrong was the very American sound track of a passing train.

Thought it was a very good show with a mix of talking to the veterans and music.

No unless Churchill was a closet communist.

We thoroughly enjoyed it. No propaganda, just good entertainment and well put together.

It is nice to see a post start in a positive way.

The BBC always comes up to expectations at such events. Although it was a joyous time some families never really recovered and there were many many children who were evacuated out of London who never saw their parents again.

I was 7 on VE Day so although I lived through the war I was too young to know a different way of life. Gas masks, air raid shelters , blackout curtains , no playing out in the street in case a siren went off were all part of a routine day. I was sheltered from the family members that were lost but I do remember going by my Grandmas house after it had been destroyed.
We had a wonderful party in our street and it was the first time I had seen so many people together. Lights came back on and as I know now we had come out of the darkness.
