Denied Boarding
Just been reading that a passenger due to join Iona was denied boarding as they had a positive Covid test at the terminal. That in itself is not an issue but that passenger had travelled to the terminal on a coach and so everyone that was on that coach was disembarked and sent home. Apparently P&O did all the organising to get them home, many by taxi, but some were having their dinner when told to disembark.
Good to see that P&O are being so strict about their protocols but it does raise the question as to whether travelling to the terminal by coach is a good idea at the moment.

Re: Denied Boarding
Not read the story yet but good point David, maybe it should be 'make your own way' for all. It will be interesting to see if there is any additional fall out from this. With any luck it might even have been a false positive.

Re: Denied Boarding
It clearly is not a good idea at all but you would have thought they would have known that

Re: Denied Boarding
I have had to book Eavesway for my April cruise. I know at the moment they are asking every passenger to have a test 72 hours before boarding their coaches.

Re: Denied Boarding
Bad luck for all concerned. Not sure why the remaining passengers concerned also had to be off loaded. Apart from the one passenger, the remaining must of cleared testing before boarding.

Re: Denied Boarding
That one passenger could have infected others and then once onboard it could spread like wild fire, not saying that it would only that it could as per the Noro epidemic we experienced on Oriana some years ago.

Re: Denied Boarding
Bit of an over reaction to send everyone on the coach home. Surely if they had been double jabbed and tested negative then I think they should have been allowed to enjoy their holiday except the poor passenger who was negative.

Re: Denied Boarding
The passenger in question failed the regular LFT, then also failed the fast response PCR test. So hopefully not a false positive.

Re: Denied Boarding
Surely it makes sense to hold all of the coach passengers back till all tested than allow them to board, unpack and be seated in the dining room.
How upsetting for all concerned.

Re: Denied Boarding
It takes tome to become infectious, and its doubtful that would have happened by the time they had contacted all the coach passengers and taken them off the ship.

Re: Denied Boarding
I don't think P&O had any choice. The other passengers may have been infected on the coach and while they would not themselves have become infectious to others in the short time they were aboard they could have done so in the next few days and then infected hundreds. Sad as it is for them it's not a risk that could be taken. I agree they should consider holding back all the passengers on a coach from boarding until all are given the all clear. And personally at the moment I wouldn't consider a coach trip to a cruise.

In which case the whole ship may have been infected. Who knows how many that person may have come into contact with while in the waiting area before boarding.

And therein lies the risk, there will always be some selfish sod who will turn up sans jabs tests etc.

Re: Denied Boarding
I would suggest P&O would give you a credit rather than a refund for the passengers who were sent home but zilch for the passenger(s) who tested positive, that would be a claim on their insurance.

Re: Denied Boarding
Is that so ... are P&O & Co expecting all claims to go via the passenger's insurance cover ?daib GC wrote: ↑19 Aug 2021, 10:39No all passengers affected will get money back or FFC’sManoverboard wrote: ↑16 Aug 2021, 11:03I would suggest P&O would give you a credit rather than a refund for the passengers who were sent home but zilch for the passenger(s) who tested positive, that would be a claim on their insurance.
