Should be maybe but sadly it's anyone who decides to launch across a road junction.

Headphone wearing jogger man will not even need to break step now, safe in the knowledge it's his right of way to plough on. Worrying.

I find that pedestrians waiting to cross on side streets are quite frequently given priority by most drivers, so that particular rule should not be too onerous.
However the cyclists being "entitled" to ride in the middle of the lane, and alongside one another, is IMO a recipe for disaster
If motorists are now supposed to stay behind cyclists because the cyclist deems its unsafe to overtake, it is going to lead to massive frustration which will undoubtedly bubble over fairly regularly.

The Met briefing room--"O K Team, today we are tasked to investigate parties held in Downing Street and to bring the perpetrators to Justice, and no officer Collins, we will not be using our Big key to get into Number 10"
If only the old bill would put the same effort to looking into normal crimes. A lot of money, time and effort for a £100 fine. You may be lucky to see a policeman, if you were the victim of crime.
Don't worry, be happy

The new rule states....when people are crossing or waiting to cross at a junction, other traffic should give way. if people have started crossing and traffic wants to turn into the road, the people crossing have priority and the traffic should give way
Could / should this ' People Crossing ' be the area with a pedestrian Crossing painted on it rather than simply a number of people crossing a road ?
Hi Mob,

I would have thought that if the footfall of people warrants a painted crossing then that would be safer than them just stepping into the road… however any such crossing should be placed at a distance that allows traffic to flow freely around junctions imo

I thought that always was the rule ... if someone is already on the road then the traffic should give way to them.

I remember when I used to drive a diesel car and had to drive past cyclists riding multiple abreast, I for some reason seemed to always miss my gear selection when pulling back in causing my diesel to rev horrendously. I felt sorry for the cyclists because they were left to cycle through a huge plume of diesel smoke. :? :?

I think the change is drivers are now supposed to give way if pedestrians are dithering thinking about crossing, not just if they're already underway.

In the real world many of these situations will sort themselves out with a bit of care and common sense (as they always have done). There will always be the odd idiot who is the exception to the rule.

I think you're right. Which makes the change even more nonsense. If it ain't broke why fix it?

I heard, by the way, that it is illegal to drive without headlights when it's raining iin Sweden. My question is how the hell am I supposed to know if it's raining in Sweden?
