Comrade Putin has put his Nuclear deterrent unit on standby. Why? I don't think he needs to worry about incoming unless he pressed the button.

Sounds like bluster to me. Our nuclear deterrent is surely always on standby, with one of the subs always at sea. I would assume theirs was too. You don't get much time if the other side fires first.

I cannot see a way out of this - Ukraine and Russia are polls apart with any solution. Putin wants to annex Ukraine and Ukraine wants Russia out of its country - there is no middle ground. The Russian people are not up for this war but I cannot see any way that they will be able to change Putin's mind and certainly not remove him from office.

Spot on!!! The Russian propaganda machine tried to discredit him by saying he had left the country only to be made to look foolish when Zelensky did a selfie from the streets of Kyiv. He has shown himself to be a true leader.

It would be awful if that were to happen but if it did then I feel sure NATO would have to take military action as you can’t have a nutter bumping off leaders as and when he pleases.

NATO would look away and Boris would send a strongly worded letter ... there's far too much at stake to take the Russian on.

It was interesting to here the guardian reporter's comments on politics live today, about the differening view of nuclear weapons the Kremlin has to the West. Whereas we view them as the ultimate deterrent, they consider them as a tactical option in warfare.
A very frightening thought.
