Bl**dy weather!! Driving in 30 degree sunshine would have been preferable - at least the car's got aircon. In the current conditions there were times when you could have waterskied behind me - if I could have safely gone fast enough in the conditions that is!

drove 400 miles today in some of the worst rain and storms I have ever seen, the A1 literally turned into a river at one point, bloody scary

Tink
I kid you not, going up one hill on the A1 ,the water was coming down the hill like a wave about 5 inches deep
we were struggling to keep traction without stopping, very scary

I do feel your pain DK - this is one of the downsides of moving to Somerset and commuting to Bristol.
Somerset - on the levels - floods frequently and aqua planning is the most scariest thing going.
I, too, travel up a very very steep hill and the first time it was like trying to drive up a waterfall - I now work from home when the going goes too deep.

I can't use the M32, seeing as I'm on a 49cc moped! Anyway, the A38 is closer to the office. I did change my route this morning, though, as the ringroad by Abbeywood station has been known to flood.

My son hit a wet patch last week and wrapped his car round a fence post, inflating two airbags and writing the car off. They'd only had it a week.....

Whereabouts in Bristol do you work, Tinks?

Working from home is not terribly practical when the purpose of the journey is to get to Southampton to join your ship. Anyhow, we had a prolonged stop to let the worst of it blow over, and had a much better 2nd leg of the journey. Now it's just a 90 minute hop to Mayflower.

Play happily while I'm away. HK - are you swimming out, or using the Kayak?
